$30 for 30!
Geri is turning 30!
I turn 30 on September 9th and it’s hard not to get a little nostalgic. As a little baby bean I was obsessed with animals. I wanted to be a veterinarian, I wanted to have my own 101 Dalmatians, and I wanted to teach our dogs every trick in the (literal) book. I begged people to let me borrow their dogs for the day and passed out flyers convincing people to drop their pups off at my very illegitimate “doggy daycare”. I asked my mom to take me to the dog park (sans dog) so that I could pet allllll the dogs. I LOVED DOGS.
When I learned about rescue and realized I could save lives, my obsession turned into a passion. From the moment I turned 16 and was legally allowed to volunteer, my life became all about rescue. I was at the shelter as much as possible, learning all I could.
When I was 21 I founded Almost There Rescue, and at 29 moved that rescue into a big, beautiful, life-saving facility with 19 kennels.
I could not have done any of this without the love and support I get from the wonderful people in my life.
Over the last 30 years, I’ve had the pleasure of knowing the most incredible, kick-ass humans. From my own family and closest friends, to my PCDS family & horseback riding family who, even if we haven’t caught up recently, will always be in my life, and everyone in between: You all made me who I am today. Your love, encouragement, and support fuels me and means more than you could ever know!
If you have ever loved a dog, you know the feeling of loving them fully and completely. Imagining your dog homeless and alone probably tears your heart to pieces. Mine too. And it breaks at the thought of any dog without love and care. As you all know, that was why I started Almost There Rescue.
I’m proud to say that my little shelter has grown from a few kennels in my home to a beautiful 14,000 sq foot facility dedicated to saving more lives. Since 2013, ATR has saved and adopted out over 1,560 dogs — and we’re just getting started!
I absolutely hate asking for money, I never would dream of it if it weren’t absolutely necessary to help ATR continue to save the lives of homeless doggo families.
It would mean the world to me, and especially to all the homeless mamas and puppies we could save with the extra funds!
Thanks for all the love and for making this birthday so special! -Geri

Our Mission
To save mama dogs and their pups, provide care and enrichment, and find loving, forever homes.
ATR specializes in large-breed pregnant dogs and their pups who need time and space to grow and become socialized. Our dogs have significant social time with adults, children and other dogs, and we provide them with experiences that will help shape them into the very best pups they can be. Our mama dogs work with on site behaviorists to develop personalized programs to prepare them for life as your new forever family member. ATR is determined to give you all the information we know about our dogs so we can help find the perfect match for you. All of our dogs are altered, micro-chipped, and up-to-date on vaccines prior to adoption.
ATR is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and receives no tax or government funding. We do not sell, rent, or share our supporter information with any other organizations or third parties.
